Does the prospect of facilitating artists to imaginatively use the collections preserved in archives in their own work excite you? Or perhaps you love the idea of enabling curators to innovatively design a whole new way of looking at a museum collection? If yes, then you are just the person India Foundation for the Arts is looking for, to join us as Manager: Archival & Museum Fellowships.
As some of you know, India Foundation for the Arts (IFA) is an independent philanthropic organisation based in Bangalore. We make grants across the country to support research, practice and education in arts and culture. Please visit www.indiaifa.org for further information on our mission, objectives and programmes.
Job Description: The Archival and Museum Fellowships are relatively new initiatives at IFA, created with the objective of activating interest in archives and museums by enabling innovative curatorial, artistic or research work in/through such spaces and their collections. The candidate will be required to develop strategies for the fellowships, build relevant collaborations and partnerships, facilitate artists and curators in developing their projects and engage with current debates and conversations in museum curation as well as archives and archival research.
Desired Profile: We are looking for an individual with a background in research, curation, or programme management in an arts/culture/research organisation and would be especially keen on hearing from you if you have an on-going interest in archives and museums, and in reimagining the nature of knowledge production associated with both these spaces. Applicants must hold a postgraduate degree in any area of the arts and humanities.
We envision this as a full-time position, however, if you are an artist or a curator yourself, IFA will be delighted to discuss a part-time engagement with a commitment of three days a week to this position.
Remuneration: Remuneration will be determined based on the candidate’s experience, qualifications, and whether the position is taken up on a full-time or part-time basis. The broad salary scale ranges between Rs. 2.7 and 4.0 lakh per annum.
Location: Bangalore. You will be expected to travel across the country from time to time.
Term: On contract basis for a period of two years, with the possibility of an extension for another three years.
Application Procedure: Applicants should submit a statement of interest and a resume including the names of two referees; samples of published or unpublished writing/research; curatorial or artistic sample portfolios if applicable. Please email applications to firstname.lastname@example.org
Deadline: November 15, 2013. Shortlisted applicants will be invited for a phone interview and then for a personal interview in Bangalore in the second/third week of November, and will be expected to join soon after.
