Abeer Gupta & Suchitra Balasubrahmanyan

Archival and Museum Fellowships
2014-2015

Grant Period: Over one year

Suchitra Balasubrahmanyan and Abeer Gupta are designers who teach at the School of Design at Ambedkar University, Delhi. The main aim of their project at the Decorative Arts Department is to demonstrate how national cultural resources can have both pedagogic and public value through research and display through establishing live links between collections, classrooms and galleries. Their research will include understanding the historical evolution of form, materials and technological processes together with transformations in networks of trade and consumption. The findings will be made accessible to the general public and students through a well designed experiential exhibition that will carry image, text, object as well as audio-visual elements. Most importantly, their research will feed into developing a postgraduate programme on design and material culture studies at the University. Through this project they hope to build strong links between the academic and cultural institutions in the country.
