“What am I seeing and experiencing? How was this artefact once used? How does this exhibit, artefact or experience make me feel?”

The questions above were asked to the students of Government High School (Hindi medium), Ballari, Karnataka, as they participated in activities conducted with the Robert Bruce Foote Sangankallu Archaeological Museum (RBFSAM), which triggered conversations around prehistoric artefacts and how they enrich school curriculum. The museum is named after Robert Bruce Foote, a British geologist who was employed with the Geological Survey of India. It houses artefacts from the Paleolithic period to the Iron Age, and the museum visits helped the students to inculcate a more rooted understanding of their cultural experiences and also built an appreciation in them for reading and writing. Using an integrated approach that involves visual art, music, theatre and dance, the project allowed the students to unlock their imagination and created a new learning experience, resulting in a performance and an exhibition.

Join us for a presentation by Syed (Riyaz) who will be speaking about the project in detail and will be in conversation with Gowri and Ahiraj Mattihalli from the RBFSAM.

The session will also be streamed live on our Facebook page, for which no prior registration is required.
