Tanveer Ajsi

Programme Executive: Arts Research

Tanveer has completed his Masters in Art History and Aesthetics from MS University, Baroda and has studied filmmaking and editing at the Centre for Research and Industrial Staff Performance (CRISP), Bhopal.

He has served as Consultant, Publications and as gallery in-charge, Lalit Kala Akademi. He was a visiting professor at the Department of Art History and Art Appreciation, Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI), New Delhi, where he helped establish an archive of art at the Faculty of Fine Arts. Following this, he was appointed as curator of the M F Husain Art Gallery at the university. Tanveer also co-founded a series of provocative, experimental performance pieces, titled Harkats, along with performance artist, Inder Salim.

His columns have appeared in leading Indian art magazines and journals.

Tanveer is deeply passionate about theatre and has scripted and directed several plays while working at Bharat Bhawan, Bhopal. He has also been awarded fellowships by the Ministry of Culture, Ford Foundation and J & K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages.

Away from work, Tanveer enjoys reading literature, poetry and philosophy. At present he is working on a book on performance art in India.
